About This Place

Nestled on Monterey Road in Gilroy, Sandy’s Café is a cherished breakfast destination that brings classic American comfort food to life with warmth and authenticity. If you’re craving a hearty, satisfying start to your day, this family-owned gem serves up all the favorites with a home-cooked touch that’s hard to find elsewhere.

The menu at Sandy’s Café bursts with mouthwatering options that cater to a wide range of breakfast lovers. Whether you’re drawn to the rich, creamy Biscuits and Gravy that melt in your mouth, or prefer the savory indulgence of Steve’s Country Benedict, every dish is crafted with care and packed with flavor. Fans of traditional breakfast fare will find joy in the perfectly scrambled eggs paired with crispy hash browns or home fries, while the French Toast Special drips with just the right amount of maple syrup for a sweet start. For something hearty and filling, the Chicken Fried Steak with Home Fries or the Hamburger Steak and Eggs deliver generous portions that satisfy even the most robust appetites.

Those seeking variety will appreciate the diverse selections, from the soothing warmth of oatmeal or cream of wheat to the fresh, vibrant Avocado Toast and versatile breakfast sandwiches. Hot open-faced sandwiches topped with roast beef or sliced turkey provide a comforting twist on diner classics, and the array of sandwiches — like the classic Tuna Melt or a crispy Club Sandwich — are perfect for a midday treat. Vegetarian diners are not left out either, with offerings like the Veggie Omelette with Canadian Bacon and the vegetarian benedict, highlighted as customer favorites.

Sandy’s Café is not just about the food — it’s the experience that makes it special. Upon entering, you’re embraced by a welcoming atmosphere reminiscent of a cozy neighborhood kitchen. The staff’s genuine friendliness and attentiveness create a warm ambiance that invites you to relax and savor your meal. Reviewers often note the delicious meals served hot and fresh, a testament to the pride taken in every plate served. As one loyal patron, Miguel Cabrera, puts it: “It’s good old-fashioned comfort food done right.”

Regular visitors appreciate the family-owned charm and the ease of access from the freeway, making it a convenient stop whether you’re on the go or planning to linger over breakfast. The service, while busy during peak hours, remains patient and thoughtful, ensuring each guest feels valued. Combos like the Canadian bacon and eggs paired with a large pancake perfectly balance taste and value, as Jim Draeger experienced on his recent visit.

While the skillet options and French Toast draw praise for their generous portions and flavorful execution, some guests have noted small imperfections, such as the occasional toughness in the chicken fried steak. However, these minor critiques are often overshadowed by the overall homestyle goodness, warm service, and inviting environment. As Campbell White shared, “Service is good, but slow when it’s busy, which, in my opinion, is understandable and acceptable for homestyle cooking.”

Atmosphere, flavor, and flexibility come together beautifully here. The team at Sandy’s Café welcomes special requests and goes the extra mile to accommodate dietary preferences. This genuine care and the consistent quality of food is why many families and solo travelers alike keep coming back for their comforting breakfast fix.

In all, Sandy’s Café is a heartfelt nod to the simple joys of breakfast done well — each dish is a warm invitation to slow down, savor, and feel truly at home, whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth.

Sandy’s Café is one of those rare places that still feels like home. The staff here are genuinely friendly, hardworking, and always make you feel welcome the moment you walk through the door. You can tell they take pride in what they do,every plate comes out hot, fresh, and just the way breakfast should be. It’s good old-fashioned comfort food done right, fluffy pancakes, perfectly cooked eggs, and coffee that never seems to run out. You won’t find any gimmicks here, just honest, hearty meals served by people who care. A true local gem worth supporting.

I have been here a few times before. I travel in my work. I like this place because it is family owned. The great food and service. Also easy access on and off the freeway. Very friendly people there. I had the Canadian bacon and eggs. It also came with a large pancake on the side that I had.

We love coming to Sandy's Café! The owner and staff are always very welcoming and friendly throughout. And the food is just great! Today we were a party of three. My wife had the vegetarian benedict, my son the house burger and I had the skillet with a side order of french toast. I am glad they are rather flexible on those special requests! It does cost a bit more but for me this upgrade is very much worth it! Everything was great, it tasted very good, nicely presented and generous portions. And all of that at very reasonable prices. What more can you ask for! Already looking forward to our next visit!

Food was decent for the price and has a good amount, even for the mini breakfast. It came with a huge pancake so would recommend that over the toast to get your money’s worth. The staff was nice and friendly and Soph was a great server! Only thing is the menu pictures on google weren’t updated so here they are! As of 09/2025

Food and coffee are very good. Biscuits and gravy are done well. My only complaint is that the chicken fried steak was a little tough and had some pockets of hard gristle that were inedible. Service is good, but slow when it's busy, which, in my opinion, is understandable and acceptable for home-style cooking. We will be making this a regular breakfast spot and am very excited to try so many of the unique items from their large selection.
